Nayeem Ahsan

Chief Operating Officer

As a recent Stuyvesant alumnus, Nayeem is in the relative age range of most of his students. As a result,  he is able to understand their difficulties and actively engage them to learn new material. Rather than teach his students what to think, he shows them how to think. By drawing connections between what they already know and what they don’t, students better comprehend the unfamiliar information.

Before joining RQM, Nayeem worked on current New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo’s 2010 gubernatorial campaign and current Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney’s 2010 congressional campaign. Starting as an intern, part of a large group of volunteers, Nayeem quickly worked his way up the campaign ladder by conversing with thousands of each candidate’s respective constituents each and every week. He eventually directed the efforts of the entire group, while working closely with the campaign managers and candidates themselves to ensure that both campaigns were a success. To this day, he is still asked to consult with various campaigns to help them become as efficient as the campaigns he has worked. Nayeem brings that level of commitment to RQM, as he works tirelessly to ensure that the many children who walk into RQM, leave as prepared students ready to to tackle whichever challenges they must respectively face.

Nayeem has also worked with private investor, Jerry Cahn, to bring affordable renewable energy to the tri-state area. Nayeem worked with ConEdison, the largest energy provider in the demographic, and Vridian, a green energy supplier, to retool renewable energy rates to levels lower than ‘brown energy’. Alternative energy is a rather unfamiliar concept to many of the inhabitants in the cities as the technology is better adapted for more rural locations. With this complication in mind, Nayeem led a team of interns to many of the city’s great public parks to inform visitors of the purpose and benefits of green energy. By being able to understand the effects of global warming on their surroundings, the visitors started to gain interest in this concept. The team was successful in persuading many of them to switch their energy supplier to Vridian while keeping ConEdison as their energy provider. Nayeem aspires to continue his work to bring affordable green energy to the eight billion people of New York City one day.

Nayeem’s experience at Vridian taught him the importance of the consumer. In order to persuade his prospective customers to convert to an unfamiliar technology, Nayeem highlighted all aspects of the conversion process, including tradeoffs. As a firm believer in renewable energy, Nayeem showed how the benefits overcame the shortcomings as thousands of people converted. Nayeem believes in the importance of transparency and carries that trait over to RQM. Nayeem encourages parents and guardians to ask questions about their children’s progress, whether it be about their social or academic development. Nayeem provides each parent with detailed reports, highlighting how their child is progressing, and what they must do from that point on to accomplish their goals.

Nayeem recognizes education as the greatest driving factor behind his success. He credits his parents for paving his road to success by teaching him the rudiments of English and mathematics before he attended formal schooling. Their hard work and dedication paid off as Nayeem went on to skip a grade, ace the SHSAT, score in the 99.5th percentile on the SAT, attain a perfect score of 800 on the Math 2 and Physics SAT 2s, and a 720 on the United States History SAT 2. Nayeem already having received high marks on numerous Advanced Placement exams continues to challenge himself by taking six AP classes in his senior year. Nayeem encourages every parent to take the same initiative as his parents did, to invest time and effort to educate their sons and daughters.

As an educator, Nayeem understands that he has to cater to auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learners who require very different instruction. Rather than ‘mold’ his instruction towards each specific type, Nayeem uses all three styles to bolster his students to not only develop their analytical reasoning (whilst attacking the question) but also their cognitive skills so that they can understand how their learning style differs from others. By learning about other styles of learning, the student can better understand the generalized classroom instruction in their respective educational institutions. Nayeem employs a wide array of creative techniques to ensure that his students are able to digest the plethora of information as succinctly as possible.

Nayeem also facilitates the instruction of the SHSAT, Regents, and SAT classes at RQM. Having studied for these exams himself (and excelling in them, of course), Nayeem brings a great level of intimacy with the subject matter. Having the unique experience of being tutored on a one-on-one basis and as part of classroom instruction, Nayeem develops curriculum that adheres to the needs of every student. The results of such an innovative curriculum are reflected in RQM students’ exceptional acceptance rate to the specialized high schools and countless others who have drastically improved their scores on the many standardized tests.
